More Points for Oliver and SGR Racing
Round five of the Pirelli National Superstock 600 class saw Tom Oliver finish in the points once again at Knockhill, in Scotland, in treacherous conditions aboard his SGR Racing R6 Yamaha.
The Colchester rider had never raced on the tight, undulating and challenging Scottish track, however Oliver settled into both qualifying sessions in different and difficult conditions, qualifying in 11th place after both sessions. SGR Racing from Morpeth were keen for a point scoring result as this is their local race.
As race day dawned the weather had not improved and the race set off in dry but unsettled conditions. Off the line Oliver settled into a strong position following a difficult start. He worked his way forward to 10th place as the race progressed.
However, as conditions deteriorated Oliver backed off and raced a very sensible race to ensure more championship points. The race was stopped due to rain on lap 15 of 22 and Oliver brought his SGR Racing Yamaha home in a point scoring 14th position.
Tom Oliver said: “It really was a tough race. I’ve never been to Knockhill before so I had to learn the track. It’s not an easy track to get to grips with plus the weather was awful. I wanted a better result however, I brought it home in the points despite the difficult conditions. The next round is Snetterton, a track I know so I’m sure we can do much better. Everyone worked really hard so I was pleased to score some points.”
Stephen Kinghorn, Team Manager, said: “I’m really proud of Tom this weekend. He has never raced at Knockhill before and he did a great job. It’s a tough track to learn plus the weather is always so changeable here. He rode a very sensible and grown up race to once again be consistent and score more points.”
The sixth round of the Pirelli National Superstock 600 Championship is at Snetterton in Norfolk on 8th – 10th July.
