Fifth place finish for Oliver at Brands Hatch

The second round of the Pirelli National Superstock 600 Championship at Brands Hatch Indy circuit yielded a fifth place finish for Tom Oliver and his SGR Racing Yamaha team.

2017 British Superbike Championship, BSB R02,

Oliver had great pace all weekend and secured pole position with a near perfect lap round the challenging 1.2-mile Kent circuit. When the lights went out Oliver jumped straight into the lead, which he maintained for three laps before the hard charging Dan Stamper made his move to take first position.

Running a touch wide at Druids hairpin on lap five allowed the chasing pack to get closer. As the arduous race progressed Oliver found himself dropping back as the pace picked up, settling for a point scoring finish in fifth place. The top five were in a class of their own a full six seconds ahead of the remaining field.

Tom Oliver said: “It was a tough race as I expected, I had the speed but not the strength to challenge. I want to be consistent and keep bringing in the points and that is what I did. I couldn’t believe the lap time I put in to grab pole position every sector was spot on! The next round is at Oulton Park which is one of my favourite circuits so I’ll be giving it my all to challenge for the win.”

Stephen Kinghorn, Team Owner said: “I’m really pleased with our result and Tom rode well. He has been on form all weekend and I know he will keep pushing each time he is on track. We’ve had a lot of support this weekend, which means a lot to us. Thanks to TK Cope for coming along and cheering Tom on, it’s always good to have your boss back you up! We are now looking to Oulton Park to see what we can achieve there. Tom always goes well there so hopefully we will see another podium finish.

The third round of the Pirelli National Superstock 600 Championship will take place at Oulton Park in Cheshire on 29th April – 1st May.

Podium Finish for Oliver and SGR Racing!

Tom Oliver aboard his SGR Racing R6 Yamaha has started his race season in style by giving his team their first podium finish in the Superstock 600 class, at round one of the Pirelli National Superstock 600 Championship at Donington Park. The fast Colchester rider came over the line in second place, securing 20 points and making SGR Racing history!

The Morpeth based family-run team got the weekend off to a flying start with Oliver placing the SGR Racing Yamaha in pole position ahead of the opening race. When the lights went out he scythed his way into the lead and stayed there for a brilliant six laps.

During this time the competition had been creeping closer and pushed Oliver back to second place. On lap ten the race got even more dramatic as Oliver was forced back to third place and at one point he and his two fellow competitors where three-abreast into the Esses chicane. It was heart-stopping stuff!

On lap 11 Oliver made his way back into second place and stayed there for the remaining laps. He was consistently fast during the final three laps but opted to keep second place and bag 20 points instead of pushing for a win and perhaps crashing out.

Stephen Kinghorn, Team Owner said: “What a cracking start to the season! I’m thrilled that Tom has given us our first pole position and podium finish in this class. He is a talented and smart rider, I was pleased he settled for second and took the points. We have a lot of racing to do and points mean a lot. I must say a big ‘thank you’ to all our sponsors and supporters. I need to give the Business Hub a shout-out as they have been instrumental in helping me pull in our sponsorship. I’m absolutely buzzing.”

Tom Oliver said: “I don’t think it has sunk in yet. I’m so happy to have given SGR their first podium finish in Superstock 600. I’ve got to thank my Dad, Aston and everyone at SGR Racing as they have been instrumental in making this happen. Also thanks to 100% Suspension, Moto Gear, TK Cope, Anglia Fixings and Putoline Oils. It’s a long season so I went for the points as that is what will count. It was a tough race and I had to make myself relax with ten laps to go and it worked. I want to carry this momentum into Brand Hatch where hopefully we can score more points and pick up another podium finish for SGR Racing.”

The second round of the Pirelli National Superstock 600 Championship will take place at the Brands Hatch Indy circuit in Kent on 15th – 17th April.
