Podium Joy for SGR Racing
SGR Racing’s Tom Oliver finished the seventh round of the Pirelli National Superstock 600 Championship in a hard-fought third place! Giving him his third podium of the season and putting him back into second place in the Championship.
The weekend got off to a tough start with the team suffering from technical problems during free practice on Friday and Oliver was languishing in an unusual 16thplace. The team worked hard through the night to get the SGR Racing Yamaha R6 ready for qualifying on Saturday and they did a great job as Oliver was able to qualify in fourth place on the highly competitive grid.
When racing got underway, it did not disappoint! The riders were swapping places from the off with Oliver holding his own. In the cut and thrust of the race Oliver was forced back to eighth place but that wasn’t a position he would settle for. He regrouped and cut his way back through the pack.
The battle was on between Oliver and Championship leader Dan Stamper. The two swapped places numerous times during the closing laps, however Oliver just pipped him on the line achieving third place by just 0.2 sec.
Tom Oliver said: “What a race, I really enjoyed that! There was no way I was letting a podium position get away from me. As a team we’ve had a difficult weekend with gearbox problems on Friday which took us a lot of time to get sorted out. But the main thing is we pulled through and the bike ran perfect. Last year Thruxton was a great round for us and I lead the race for quite a few laps. Let’s see what we can manage this time round.”
The eighth round of the Pirelli National Superstock 600 Championship will take place at Thruxton in Hampshire on 4th – 6th August.
